Understanding Your Coverage
The primary difference between medical and vision insurance lies in the type of services they cover and how they are structured to support your overall health and eye care needs.
Vision Insurance Plans
Vision insurance covers everyday eye care services. This includes annual eye exams, prescription glasses, contact lenses, and sometimes discounts on elective vision correction surgeries like LASIK.
Vision insurance does not typically cover medical or surgical treatments for eye diseases or conditions. Medical insurance usually covers these.
Medical Insurance Plans
Medical insurance covers various healthcare services, including diagnosing and treating illnesses, injuries, and chronic conditions. It encompasses hospital stays, surgeries, emergency care, prescription medications, and preventive services like vaccinations and annual check-ups.
It does not generally cover standard vision care like eye exams for glasses or contact lenses, which are considered part of vision insurance.
