Our Story
Founded in 1985 by Leroy Herszman and Max Phelps, Sunglass and Optical Warehouse has grown from humble beginnings in a booth at the world famous Kobey’s Swap Meet in the San Diego Sports Arena parking lot to offer the largest selection of sunglasses, prescription sunglasses, and prescription glasses in San Diego, with three locations and over 60 brands and 7,000 frames to choose from.

Sunglass and Optical Warehouse is proud not only to offer the largest selection of prescription glasses and sunglasses in the San Diego Area, but we’re also proud of the skilled team of optometrists, opticians, and other eye care professionals who help us prescribe, dispense, fit, and repair prescription eyeglasses, contacts, and prescription and non-prescription sunglasses that not only look good but keep you seeing well.
Your Team
Optometrists
Caring for your eyes is not a responsibility we take lightly. Our team of optometrists includes Michael Matthews OD (Sports Arena Warehouse) and Sean Kuhn OD (Kearny Mesa), who are long-time area eye care providers.
As licensed optometrists, each gives eye exams and vision tests, prescribes and dispenses corrective lenses (including contacts), and screens for certain eye problems and diseases (including glaucoma and cataracts).
Opticians
Opticians are on-site at all Sunglass and Optical locations. These trained eyecare professionals can fit your glasses, sunglasses, and contacts and make adjustments, repair or replace lenses, fix bent frames, fix/replace nose pads, repair or replace broken or missing screws.
Appointments
While walk-ins are often available, calling ahead for an appointment is highly recommended.
